If you do not have a contact staff and need one for the workshop, please message me and I can provide one for you. They are also available for purchase. You must have solid wick covers or soft ends because we are on a hardwood dance floor.
Each class can hold up to 7 students. These workshops typically sell out, so please preregister if you would like to secure a spot.

BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE DESCRIPTIONS
The goal of this workshop series is to give beginner/intermediate contact staff spinners a foundation for finding expression with their contact staff. This workshop also intends to give staff spinners a transition into contact spinning. We will cover many different techniques for contact spinning over the course of the 6 workshops.
5/12: Foundations of Contact: This fundamentals class will cover the foundations of contact spinning by exploring variations of 8 different ways to manipulate the contact staff. The purpose of this course is to familiarize spinners with the concepts of Balance, Roll, Spin, Wrap, Weave, Spiral, Toss and Pinch.
5/19: Wrap it up – The purpose of this workshop is to learn how to wrap your staff around not only your hands, but also your neck, elbow, shoulder, and leg. By learning these basic wraps we will construct variations of tricks such as conveyor belts and SNeS
5/26: It’s getting fishy- This class will cover the fishtail and propellers. The purpose of this workshop is to learn techniques for mastering these two skills, and to learn how to use them in combination and variations.
6/9: The Steve- This class will cover the concepts of spiral’s and The Steve. I define a spiral as allowing the staff to spin as it rolls across the body. The purpose of this workshop is to learn backside and frontside arm rolls, and how to put them into half and full Steves.
6/16: Vertical Rolls- This class we will be focusing on spinning the staff while it's rolling vertically up/down the arms. We will focus on 2 families of movements for this concept, the Vertical Steve and Angel Rolls.
6/23: Intro to Floorwork and Movement – This 2
part class will consist of groundwork and improvisational movement. The first half of the workshop will teach you various techniques on how to move in and out of the ground while balancing the staff. To close this workshop series in the 2nd half, we will improvise with all of our techniques to find our flow and let our emotions be expressed through movement.
